With all of the protesting and black lives matter things going on you may hear the words Equity and Equality a lot. Players wear the word equality of the back of their jerseys. Protesters have the word equality on their signs. Many might not know the difference in the two words but I’m here to tell you! First equality is when everyone gets the same treatment. Everyone gets the same amount of attention no matter how different one is. As you can see in the picture below when things are equal the little boy still can’t see, he needs another block so that he can see. Equity is giving different treatment to people that need it more. In the picture the little boy gets 2 crates so that he can see and the middle child gets 1 so he can see but the dad doesn’t get any because he can see without them. Equity is helping people that need it more or are behind not just giving everyone the same thing even if it means that the ‘little boy’ still cannot see. In the case of police brutality if cops treat black people the same way as white people black people wouldn’t be getting shot and killed unjustly. But if people treat black people with equity black people could thrive and not be treated like underclass citizens. Black people like the little boy could finally ‘see’.

I hope this taught you some things – Jazziah
